Good Friday Prayer

Good Friday Prayer is a solemn Catholic devotion offered on the day we commemorate the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ. These prayers place us at the foot of the Cross with Mary and Saint John, uniting our hearts to the infinite love and sacrifice of Jesus. Rooted in the Church’s ancient liturgy of Good Friday (the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion), they are ideal for those seeking Catholic prayers for repentance, gratitude for the Redemption, and deep meditation on the Cross.

Good Friday Prayer

O Jesus, Who by reason of Your burning love for us
have willed to be crucified
and to shed Your Most Precious Blood
for the redemption and salvation of our souls,
look down upon us here gathered together
in remembrance of Your most sorrowful Passion and Death,
and grant us the grace
to love You unto death with all our hearts.
We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You,
because by Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world.

O crucified Jesus,
we fall at Your feet in sorrow and love.
Your wounds are the price of our sins.
Your open arms embrace the whole world.
Your pierced Heart is the fountain of mercy.
Wash us clean in the Blood and Water
that flowed from Your side.
Teach us to carry our own crosses
with patience and love,
and never to pass by anyone who suffers.
Mary, Mother of Sorrows,
stand by us as you stood beneath the Cross,
and help us to share in the redemption
your Son won for us.
Amen.

Short Good Friday Prayer at the Foot of the Cross

Behold the wood of the Cross,
on which hung the Saviour of the world.
Come, let us adore.

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You,
because by Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world.
Amen.

Prayer of Repentance on Good Friday

Lord Jesus, crucified for my sins,
I have pierced Your hands and feet
by my ingratitude and selfishness.
Forgive me, merciful Saviour.
Let the blood from Your wounds
wash away all my offenses.
Give me a heart like Yours,
full of love and mercy,
that I may never crucify You again by sin.
Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Redemption

O Jesus, on this day You opened the gates of heaven
by dying on the Cross for me.
I thank You with all my heart
for Your infinite love.
You have loved me even when I was Your enemy.
Help me to love You above all things
and to love my neighbour as You have loved me.
Amen.

In conclusion, Good Friday Prayer leads us to the very heart of our faith: the Cross of Jesus Christ. On this most holy day, we adore, repent, give thanks, and beg for the grace to live every day as people redeemed by His Precious Blood.
